Openet launches Space Data Information Centre (SDIC) in Kenya

Openet Technologies SpA, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA) and with the support of EAGLEPROJECTS SpA, is launching a new international project with the creation of the Space Data Information Centre (SDIC) in Nairobi, Kenya. The centre will promote the use of satellite data and space technologies for sustainable development, technical training, and economic growth on the African continent.
The project is inspired by the SPARKme model, the training and scientific hub created by Openet in 2019 in Basilicata, now home to the ITS Academy and a national point of reference for technological innovation.
The SDIC will offer advanced Earth Observation (EO) data processing and analysis services, technical support to African businesses and institutions, and will develop sustainable business models based on space technologies. It will also be a professional training center, with programs aimed at students and public officials, inspired by the ITS approach, integrating theory, practice and access to latest-generation digital laboratories.
In collaboration with organizations such as Copernicus Academy, JKUAT, E4Impact and the Kenya Innovation Agency, the SDIC aims to become a model replicable in other African countries, contributing to the construction of an international ecosystem that brings together education, technology and business.
With this initiative, Openet strengthens its commitment to making space technologies concrete tools for innovation, inclusion and global development.
