Also OPENET Technologies among the companies involved in the realization of the SESAMO project “Integrated Information System for the Acquisition, Management and Sharing of Environmental Data for Decision Support.”
The SESAMO project, sponsored by the Department of Hydraulic Engineering at the University of Palermo, aims at developing an ICT platform to manage the information coming from different sources, in order to ensure a constant and innovative monitoring system required to support the decisions of the end-users (organizations, institutions, public bodies and private companies).
Within the project, OPENET will be responsible for preparing and validating a TLC satellite network to convey the data collected by sensor systems dedicated to the “territorial monitoring”, especially for areas such as forests, coasts and special morphological areas that are not accessible from different telecommunication networks.
The project aims to offer some answers to a complex and sensitive subject for a country like Italy, characterized by a relevant hydrogeological instability.
The monitoring network to realize through the SESAME project will mainly be used by crisis and intervention units, but also by those bodies responsible for prevention and conservation interventions. Thank to its flexible configuration, the network can also be applied to other fields such as, for example, the monitoring of transport infrastructures (bridges, roads, routes, railways, water supply systems), in order to measure their wear over time and the losses.
