SWAY4Edu – Satellite Way Satellite for Education. This is the project proposed by OPENET and co-financed by the European Space under the ARTES 3-4 (Satcom Applications), whose 4 million euros contract was signed today between the head of the ESA department of telecommunications Mr. M. Vaissière and the OPENET CEO, Mr. V. Gaudiano.
The project aims to build a satellite network to support innovative services offered by OPENET for the market on the African continent. The activities, in line with the the United Nations Milllenium Development Goals, offer solutions aimed at overcoming the digital divide through an integrated use of telecommunications systems and satellite platforms operating distance learning, broadcast and voice over IP.
At this end, 13 African countries (DRC, Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Chad, Gabon, Guinée Equatorial Sao Tome and South Africa) will be involved at different levels and with different applications
In support of these initiatives, OPENET has established collaboration and cooperation agreements with institutions such as EFEAC, the Ecole de Formation en Afrique Centrale électorale, the FAO – Food and Agriculture Organization- and Rally to Read, READ Educational Trust.
